I was most fortunate to visit Iceland late October 2019 where I enjoyed a wonderful road trip around South Iceland, from Reykjavic to Glacier Lagoon.
The landscape was spectacular and the people I met wonderful. Around every bend on South Iceland's excellent roads, there was a new, eye-widening 'Wow' scene. Some were cinematic and epic, a few were even other-worldly. And these were enhanced by the shifting skies, from clear blue, through whipped-up dust-storms, to threatening, angry black.
I've posted here just some of the many images I made while there. Do, please have a browse through. About the Photography
Every day I was there it remained dry but very cold. It wasn't so much the air temperature, between +3 and -8 degrees, it was the wind-chill from the constant gale-force winds, even severe storm force on one evening.
When composing every image, the first thing to overcome was the cold. A chill-to-the-bone struggle to photograph anything
cold. So layers had to be worn, hand-warmers fired up, and silly looking but necessary hat donned at all times.
The first choice I had to make was whether or not I wanted to include the wind in each story. Because the gales were a constant during my stay, it would have been easy to let them dominate every picture. But Iceland is so grand and beautiful, I tried to keep the influence of the wind to a minimum. I wanted each scene to speak for itself. I did this by hand-holding my cameras most times - far too breezy even for my heavy-duty tripod, and adjusting the exposure triangle to suit.
