Walking Black Sand Beach, South Iceland
Reynisfjara is the Black Sand Beach found alongside the fishing village of Vik i Myrdal, South Iceland.
Apart from the fine volcanic black sand, this part of the South Iceland coastline also has large basalt stacks under steep, high cliffs. And they get battered by fierce North Atlantic winds and waves.
As with my 'Sunset in Vik' photograph, I had only a short amount of time to capture this image. The wind was very strong and ice-cold and I had to take off my gloves to adjust settings to match the changing light. My hands got worryingly numb within seconds. But standing there facing the combined angry yet beautiful scene made the discomfort totally worthwhile.
